Curls frizz when scrunched out if the gel cast is broken too early, with dry hands, or with too much friction. Wait for full dryness and soften gently.

The fix
- let curls dry completely before breaking the gel cast
- warm one or two drops of lightweight oil between your palms
- cup curls from the ends and squeeze upward instead of rubbing the surface
- stop as soon as the cast softens and leave any frizzy pieces alone
If it’s still not right
- Use a little more gel on the next wash day if the cast is too weak to protect the curl.
- Diffuse until the roots are dry too, since damp roots can puff up later.
Prevent it next time
- Keep hands out of curls while they dry.
- Scrunch with upward pressure rather than side-to-side rubbing.
Notes
Why this works
Scrunching out the cast should soften hold, not restart the styling process. If curls are still damp, the pattern has not finished setting, so pressure breaks the shape before it can lock in.
Oil and gentle upward squeezing reduce friction. Stopping early matters too, because over-scrunching keeps disturbing the same curl clumps until they turn fuzzy.
